GPR Scanning

Ground Penetrating Radar locates rebar, post-tension cables, conduit, and voids inside concrete before any cutting or drilling starts — so the crew knows what's there before the blade hits.

What We Do

GPR scanning sends radar pulses through a concrete slab or wall and reads the reflected signals to produce a real-time image of what's embedded inside. The operator marks the surface with the locations of rebar, post-tension cables, conduit, electrical, plumbing, and voids before any cutting or drilling begins.

Hitting a post-tension cable during a core drill or flat saw cut is a serious structural event — it can injure crew, damage equipment, and create significant liability. GPR scanning before the job eliminates that risk and gives the GC and owner confidence that the scope was executed safely. DSI can mobilize a GPR scan prior to any cutting scope or as a standalone service.

Common Questions
When do I need GPR scanning?
Any time you're cutting or drilling into a slab or wall where post-tension cables, active conduit, plumbing, or structural rebar locations aren't confirmed from drawings. If you don't know what's in the concrete, scan before you cut.
Can GPR detect post-tension cables?
Yes. Post-tension cables are one of the primary reasons GPR scanning is used before concrete cutting. Cutting a PT cable is a structural event — GPR locates them so cuts are planned around them.
What does GPR scanning show?
Rebar layout and depth, post-tension cables, conduit and electrical, plumbing lines, and voids or delamination within the slab. Results are marked directly on the surface at the scan location.
Can you scan the same day as the cutting scope?
Yes. DSI can schedule scanning and cutting on the same mobilization or on back-to-back days. Confirm timing when you call so the scan crew and saw crew coordinate correctly.
